(UnitedVoice.com) – Polls have consistently shown that the American people believe President Joe Biden is too old to run for a second term. His debate performance in June did nothing to comfort those who believe it’s time for him to retire. A former Democratic congressman even attacked Biden’s decision to keep going.
On June 30, former Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY) appeared on 770 WABC radio’s “The Cats Roundtable,” where he discussed the current state of the presidential race. During the interview, the 94-year-old said he’d “never been more shocked and embarrassed by any presidential debate” than he was during the match between Biden and former President Donald Trump.
Rangel went on to insult Trump, calling him a liar and a felon, saying he had no respect for morality. But he also went after Biden. The former congressman said Biden “seemed so damned confused” he didn’t know if the president knew “where the hell he was at in terms of responding to the moderator.” He explained that it was obvious the POTUS “was shaky in responding” and said people have to think about what could happen in the next term.
The ex-Harlem lawmaker said he would support both Trump, who is three years younger, and Biden undergoing cognitive tests to determine if they should be in the race. He also said that Democrats would still vote for the president if he were in a nursing home, and Republicans would vote for Trump if he were in jail.
The Democratic Party largely rallied behind Biden after the terrible debate performance, but the media was not so forgiving. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution wrote an editorial after the debate and called on the president to step aside. “The shadow of retirement is now necessary for President Biden,” the editorial board stated. The Wall Street Journal’s editorial board also called on the president to drop out of the race.
Biden maintains he’s capable of doing the job.
