(UnitedVoice.com) – Former President Donald Trump’s popularity among Republicans has not diminished since he left office in 2021. Conservatives still view him as the leader of the party. And now, he has won another big primary race.
On February 27, Michigan primary voters went to the polls and voted for who they thought should represent their party in the November election. Trump went up against former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley in the race and soundly defeated her. With 99% of the precincts reporting, the former president received 68% of the vote, while Haley got just 26%.
Trump received 12 delegates, and Haley was only awarded four of them. The win brought the former president’s delegate count up to 122. Haley has just 24 delegates. To win the nomination, a candidate must get 1,215 delegates. When Trump ran in 2016, he won 1,447.
After his win, Trump called into the Michigan Republican watch party in Grand Rapids to thank those who supported him. He said their task is “simple;” they must help him “win on November 5.” He told the voters that if he’s able to win their state, then he takes the entire race.
That’s a point he made during his events leading up to the primary. At a February 17 rally in Waterford Township, he said to let everyone know they should vote for him. He told the crowd they had to bring the US back to its glory.
Meanwhile, over on the other side of the aisle, President Joe Biden also won his primary election. The Democrat now has 206 delegates, while “Uncommitted” has two delegates. Biden will need 1,968 to win the nomination. Currently, no viable candidates are running against the president, which is not unusual for an incumbent. That means the president will capture his party’s nomination with ease.
What does that mean for America? They will have a repeat of the 2020 election: Trump v. Biden.
