(UnitedVoice.com) – Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is inarguably one of the most controversial members of Congress. Democrats once stripped her of her committee seats because she allegedly threatened another member of the House. For years her attacks centered around Democrats, but now she’s turned her attention to the very conservative speaker of the House.
A Democrat
Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) is widely known as one of the most conservative members of Congress. After the 2020 election, the congressman was one of the leading voices in the effort to overturn the results of the race. He reportedly pressured 125 House Republicans to join him in filing a brief to the Supreme Court supporting a lawsuit filed by Texas to overturn Biden’s wins in Michigan, Wisconsin, Georgia, and Pennsylvania. The congressman’s nickname is “MAGA Mike.”
On April 3, Greene spoke to CNN’s Manu Raju and seemingly forgot about the speaker’s record. She allegedly told the reporter that she was “not backing off” her efforts to oust Johnson. She said that if Johnson tried to move forward with a package to send aid to Ukraine, it would be “the most egregious thing he could do.”
Further, the congresswoman claimed Republican voters were “furious” with the speaker for pushing a budget through and keeping the government open. Greene allegedly said Johnson has “turned into Mitch McConnell’s twin and worse, he’s a Democrat.”
Greene doubled down on her position, saying there was not “any daylight between [Johnson] and Nancy Pelosi at this point.”
Raju reported that Greene went on to say there wasn’t a chance vacating the speaker would result in someone more moderate, like House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY). She claimed there wasn’t anyone “more moderate” or “further left” than Johnson.
Rocky Relationship
Last month, Johnson led the House in a vote to keep the government funded. Lawmakers passed a $1.2 trillion spending package a day before several federal agencies were set to run out of money. Before the House even finished voting, Greene introduced a motion to vacate the speaker.
The congresswoman expressed fury over Johnson’s decision to pass the budget but she said she wasn’t going to move forward with a vote on her motion. Greene explained that it was a warning to the Republican lawmaker. The motion came just months after the House voted to remove former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), Greene’s ally, from his position. He became the first speaker ever ousted this way in the history of the country.
No other Republicans supported Greene’s motion to vacate.
