(UnitedVoice.com) – The 2024 presidential election is likely to come down to just a few battleground states, as it has in the last few presidential elections. The fight to control the Senate will follow a similar path. One of the primary races for the upper chamber recently heated up.
Dr. Jeffrey Gunter is no political novice. He served as former President Donald Trump’s ambassador to Iceland. He has positioned himself as a MAGA candidate and is spending millions of dollars on advertising to get his message out. One of the ads Gunter is running calls his GOP opponent, Sam Brown, “the newest creature to emerge from the swamp.” He tied him to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), calling him “Scam Brown.”
Brown is leading the crowded field of Republican candidates to represent the party. He’s an Army veteran who served in Afghanistan. While overseas, his unit was part of a project to deliver a wind turbine to the Kajaki Dam. An improvised explosive device (IED) exploded and wounded them. Brown suffered burns on 30% of his body and lost his left index finger.
When Brown entered the primary in July, he received the support of the National Republican Senatorial Committee. He’s also traveled around the country and attended fundraisers with prominent Conservatives. He’d mostly ignored the attacks from his competitor, but that changed at the end of April.
During a fundraising event, Brown hit back at Gunter and the idea that he isn’t pro-Trump enough. He mocked Gunter for being a former Democrat from California, telling supporters they might hear name calling from “people who show[ed] up from places like California seven months ago” but said that he expects ex-Democrats “to play that sort of game.”
Gunter told Fox News that voters in Nevada “deserve truthful, honest, straightforward politicians” and that he’s “110% pro-Donald Trump.” Again, he repeated the attack that Brown is “a Mitch guy.”
Trump hasn’t endorsed anyone in the race yet.
