(UnitedVoice.com) – President Joe Biden’s debate performance in June led to an overwhelming avalanche of calls for him to drop out. He finally heeded the calls and announced he was leaving the race. Former President Donald Trump has a lot to say about it.
On July 21, Biden announced he’d decided to drop out of the presidential race. He said it was “the greatest honor of [his] life to serve as […] President.” Biden said that he wanted to seek reelection but he decided it would be best for the country and Democratic Party to “step down and to focus solely on” his duties as commander-in-chief.
Biden went on to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee. Many members of his party have fallen in line behind her. Still, she has to go through the nomination process at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in August to make it official.
Trump responded to Biden’s announcement in an interview with NBC News. He called him the “worst president in the history” of America. The Republican said he’d never seen someone do more damage to the country. He also said Biden shouldn’t have ever joined the race.
“[Biden] should have stayed in his basement,” Trump declared.
Trump posted on Truth Social to discuss the matter further. He pointed out that Republicans and his campaign spent “time and money on fighting Crooked Joe Biden,” and he dropped out after he started polling badly in the weeks after the “terrible debate.” Trump said his campaign and party have to “start all over again.”
The Republican nominee asked if the GOP should receive reimbursement “for fraud” because he believes everyone around Biden knew he shouldn’t run for office.
The day after the announcement, Trump shared poll after poll showing him beating Harris in the presidential race. A Trump advisor told NBC News that the former president ultimately doesn’t care who he faces, but the campaign would have preferred Biden because that’s what it was preparing for.
