(UnitedVoice.com) – Republicans have spent the presidential campaign focusing on President Joe Biden’s age, health, and ability to perform his duties. The Democrat dropped out on July 21 and endorsed his 59-year-old vice president, Kamala Harris, as the next nominee. The Left has now turned the tables on the GOP.
The Democratic Party has spent months trying to downplay Biden’s age and possible cognitive decline. The 81-year-old POTUS claimed his age was proof that he was more experienced, not too old. Now, they’ve flipped the script and are raising concerns about former President Donald Trump’s health and age.
A spokesperson for Harris told Newsweek that Americans are “rightly concerned” about the GOP nominating “a 78-year-old convicted criminal […] who only cares about himself.” Rep. Casey Weinstein (D-OH) said the former president “is too old” to serve in the Oval Office.
There are also calls for Trump, who has a history of obesity and heart disease, to release his medical records. Dr. Bruce A. Aronwald, Trump’s primary care physician, released a letter in November that said the former president was in great physical health. When calls came for the former POTUS to release more information about his health, Dr. Aronwald made it clear that wasn’t necessary, The Washington Post reported.
Trump is already firing back at the attacks on his age and health. Karoline Leavitt, a Trump campaign national spokesperson, told Newsmax that the problem wasn’t age, it was “about competence.” She went on to say that “Harris is just as incompetent and ineffective” as the current president.
Leavitt applauded Trump for his tireless “work ethic and remarkable resolve,” which was put on display recently as he got right back on the campaign trail after an attempted assassination. The spokesperson continued, saying that Americans “trust” the former commander-in-chief “to lead our nation back to greatness.”
Aside from the irony of Democrats attacking Trump for his age, the Republican chose a 39-year-old running mate. It remains to be seen whether the hypocritical Democratic attacks will stick.
