(UnitedVoice.com) – President Joe Biden started undermining his predecessor’s border policies on his first day in office. Since then, the flood of illegal migrants has overwhelmed American communities and law enforcement officials. Equally concerning, the number of people from adversarial nations has increased, sparking concerns regarding their motivation to come to America and their impact on national security.
For instance, a quick review of the latest federal statistics shows an alarming increase in the number of migrants from Communist China, formally the People’s Republic of China, attempting to enter the country since Biden assumed office in 2021.
America Faces a Terrifying Flood of Migrants from China
As of April 18, the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency website documented 41,970 encounters between Chinese nationals, officials from the US Border Patrol (USBP), and agents with the CBP’s Office of Field Operations so far in FY 2024. The federal government’s fiscal year begins in October, meaning those figures could double by year’s end.
By comparison, only 18,201 Chinese nationals encountered federal border officials during the same time frame in FY 2023, bringing the total for the year to 52,700. Alarmingly, CBP and USBP agents interacted with 12,104 individuals from China in the first six months of FY 2021.
Putting the situation in perspective, the number of Chinese nationals who encountered federal border officials in the first six months of FY 2024 increased by more than 78% over the total figure of 23,471 for FY 2021.
Cause for Concern
Concern continues to mount about the motive behind the spike in Chinese nationals attempting to cross the border. In October 2023, House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chair James Comer (R-KY) and Rep. Glenn Grothman (R-WI), the head of the National Security, Border, and Foreign Affairs Subcommittee, launched an investigation into the rise of Chinese espionage efforts targeting US military installations and bases.
Comer and Grothman sent a letter to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and FBI Director Christopher Wray, shedding some light on the extent of the problem. They warned the Biden administration officials that a recent report indicated that Chinese nationals posing as tourists had “repeatedly accessed, or attempted to access” American military bases “and other sensitive government facilities.”
The lawmakers cited a Wall Street Journal article confirming that individuals from China had tried to breach those secure locations as many as a hundred times in recent years. Comer and Grothman asked Austin and Wray to help their respective committees investigate the Chinese operatives’ potential motives to “better inform policies to prevent future clandestine aggression” by the Chinese.
