Ellen DeGeneres Reportedly Calling It Quits

(UnitedVoice.com) – The final year of Ellen DeGeneres’ beloved daytime talk show was marred by allegations that, behind the scenes, it was a toxic place to work. Ex-employees complained about the way they were treated. Now, the comedian has declared she is calling it quits.

Degeneres recently hosted a show in Santa Rosa, California, as part of her “Ellen’s Last Stand … Up” tour. The 66-year-old discussed her decision to leave the spotlight, saying that she’s going to be canceled next for being “old, gay, and mean.”

Someone asked her if she was going to return to fame, but she said no. The former host said the show was the “last time” they were going to see her. She told the crowd she was leaving the business after her Netflix special. “I’m done,” she said.

DeGeneres caught the audience up with her life. She said she “got chickens” and she was “kicked out of show business for being mean.” She told the crowd that the first time she lost her job in the business it was for coming out as a lesbian in 1997.

According to the 34-time Emmy winner, she is a lot of things, including “demanding and impatient and tough.” She told her audience that she’s “a strong woman,” but she isn’t “mean.”

DeGeneres recently canceled four comedy shows in Chicago, Dallas, Seattle, and San Francisco. She didn’t explain why she canceled the shows, but the Daily Mail noted the cancelations came after SFGate editor Gabe Lehman published a review of her Santa Rosa show.

The actress had previously apologized to her fans after allegations of the toxic work environment came to light. She also apologized to her 255 employees and the people who employees said made their work life hell — producers Jonathan Norman, Ed Glavin, and Kevin Leman — were fired. The final episode of DeGeneres’ daytime talk show aired on May 26, 2022.
