(UnitedVoice.com) – The Lebanese terrorist group Hezbollah has repeatedly attacked Israel. The militants are angry about the Israeli war against Hamas. Recently, they took credit for a massive rocket attack.
Hezbollah launched more than 200 rockets at several military bases in Israel on July 4. The attack was reportedly retaliation for an Israeli missile strike that killed a senior commander in Lebanon. The Israeli Defense Force (IDF) reported that “numerous projectiles and suspicious aerial targets” entered the country from Lebanon. Many of the projectiles were intercepted by Israel’s defense system. One Israeli soldier died in the barrage.
The militants also sent 20 drones into Israel as well, some of which were also intercepted. The IDF responded to the attack by striking multiple towns in southern Lebanon, including Houla and Ramyeh.
The missiles struck Hezbollah’s critical “military structures.” An Israeli drone strike killed at least one person and one of Israel’s jets broke the sound barrier over Beirut. The IDF acknowledged it killed Mohammad Naameh Nasser, one of Hezbollah’s commanders.
Nasser took part in conflicts in Syria and Iraq from 2011 to 2016. He was also involved in the last fight with Israel in 2006.
The Associated Press reported Hashem Safieddine, head of Hezbollah’s Executive Council, vowed to continue its retaliatory attacks on Israel for Nassar’s death. He said the militant group would target “new sites [Israel] never imagined would be hit.”
The tension between Israel and Hezbollah has heated up in recent weeks. The US and France have been working to prevent a larger conflict from breaking out. Currently, the battle is mostly contained at the border between the two countries, but there are concerns that it could spread. Israel is also still fighting its war against Hamas, which its leaders have said will not end until they totally eradicate the terrorist organization. Hezbollah has said it will stop its attacks when Israel stops bombing Gaza.
