(UnitedVoice.com) – Former First Lady Melania Trump spent weeks at her mother’s bedside in Miami, Florida. She even missed the family’s holiday festivities to be there. Sadly, her mom did not recover from what ailed her.
On January 9, the former FLOTUS announced the very sad news that her mother, Amalija Knavs, has succumbed to her illness. In a statement on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, Melania said that her mom died. She said that she viewed her mom as a “strong woman” who was sure to always carry “herself with grace, warmth, and dignity.” She also loved her family dearly and was devoted to them. The former first lady promised she would “honor and love” her late mother’s legacy.
The former president issued a statement of his own on TRUTH Social and said that his whole family was very sad about the matriarch’s death. He praised his late mother-in-law for being a great person and said they would all miss her.
It’s not clear what led to Knavs’ death. However, she was very sick in the weeks leading up to her passing. Melania was by her side throughout the holiday season, and even missed the annual family photo. On New Year’s Eve, former POTUS Trump hosted a party and told attendees that his wife was with her ailing mother.
Knavs became an American citizen in 2018, during her son-in-law’s administration. She and her husband, the FFLOTUS’ mother, were living in New York at the time. She was born in 1945 in Austria and grew up there and in Slovenia. As an adult, she worked as a pattern maker at a clothing factory. She oversaw the production of the clothes to make sure they were good.
In 1966, she married Viktor Knavs, and they went on to have two daughters. Knav is survived by her husband, two daughters, son-in-law, and grandson, Barron Trump.
