X, Space X Leaving California in Protest of New Law

(UnitedVoice.com) – Tesla founder Elon Musk has had a love-hate relationship with California. As he’s moved to the Right politically, that relationship has become more adversarial. Now, the billionaire is moving his companies out of the state.

On July 16, Musk announced he was moving SpaceX and X (formerly Twitter) out of California. SpaceX is currently located in Hawthorne and will move to its Starbase site in Boca Chica, Texas, near Brownsville. X is in San Francisco, but Musk intends to move it to Austin, Texas, where the headquarters of Tesla relocated to in 2021.

Musk blamed the decision on a new California law that prohibits schools from notifying parents when their children change their gender identification. The law came after several school boards in the state passed requirements forcing schools to contact parents if their children express that they are transgender. Musk said the law was the “final straw.”

The businessman has previously said he supports transgender people. One of his daughters is trans. However, in 2022, they changed their last name and gender. In the court paperwork, the child said they didn’t want to “be related to [their] biological father in any way, shape or form.” Musk has not spoken about the rift.

The billionaire has also criticized California in the past for having too many regulations. He has also claimed that the drug and crime problem in San Francisco made it hard for him to go to his X offices. Unlike California, Texas has no state income or capital gains tax, making it an attractive location for wealthy people to move.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) responded to the announcement by sharing a screenshot of a post made by former President Donald Trump where he said Musk visited the White House and asked for help on his “subsidized projects.” The former POTUS said he could have made Musk drop to his “knees and beg” and “he would have done it.”

Newsom said, “You bent the knee.” Musk responded, “You never get off your knees.”
